Our daughter came to Lifeway in a dark desperate place. Actually, our whole family was in that place. Lifeway gave us support and hope. There were others who were going through the same things and that felt good! For the first time in a long time, we laughed and had fun together at Lifeway events. Our daughter is about to celebrate ONE year of sobriety. We still have a long way to go, but she has made so much progress in one year.

I lost all control of my using; I became dependent on drugs to function. Nothing else mattered to me. I used to live and lived to use. At first I was very oppositional to getting into Lifeway. I finally gave it a shot. After a couple relapses and rehabs, I was tired of the way I was living. Lifeway gave me a safe environment to take a step back and see my life for what it was, but also offered a solution.Today I’m 7 months sober and I have the trust of my mom and friends back.

My family’s journey with Lifeway began two years ago. My son was an inpatient in a local rehabilitation center. During his stay, we attended a meeting where Steve Misthos explained what alternative peer groups were and how very important it would be to connect with one of the Lifeway groups after discharge to continue to work on his recovery.I have to admit, I was still learning the vast amounts of information needed in order to understand this horrible, baffling disease. What I did know was that Steve was the expert. I was not and I was going to follow his lead.

My son and I were welcomed with loving open arms into the Lifeway program. So, for the past two years we have experienced the weekly guys group, family support meetings, family and young adult hangouts and the special holiday events. This disease is not one where a switch is flipped and all is well. Living with this disease is a process.

When additional support was needed, we experienced Lifeway’s Intensive Outpatient Program and the Guide House. We have complete trust in the guidance and work that my son and I have received from the leaders and counselors at Lifeway. Each experience has been progress and has given us hope towards guiding my son back to a healthy productive life.

Lifeway has given us both the needed support that only someone else living with this family disease can understand. My son and I have developed incredible friendships that will last a lifetime. I have many things to be grateful for when I say my daily prayers and Lifeway is always on the top on my list.

Lifeway Parent

Lifeway has come to mean more and more. It is other parents who know what we have been through. And, other kids who know what our son has been through. It is parents, who do not ask probing questions; who do not judge our parenting skills; who do not second-guess our decisions. These are parents who celebrate with us the milestones our family and our son have achieved, even the times when we have stumbled. Parents who we have gotten to know well at our weekly meetings.

I was put into The PARC on June 7, 2012 and they told me to join an APG. A boy I was in rehab with told me that I should come to Lifeway, so we did. After our first meeting my parents and I did House Rules and decided to stay.
I now have a lot of friends since joining Lifeway. They help me through a lot, and I also have a wonderful facilitator, who talks me through everything. My mom decided to get sober so now we are sober together.

I am a very proud parent of a 16 year old daughter. We found Lifeway in July of 2012 as an alternative peer. She had been placed in a drug rehab for forty days of residential treatment for drug and alcohol abuse and we looked for an APG for her to join.

Lifeway has saved my daughter’s life and my sanity this past year. Three Oaks Academy is the sober high school that provides a safe and healthy environment for my daughter to attend school and complete her education. The challenges that public schools present has made Three Oaks Academy an essential part of her recovery.

Before Lifeway, I felt lost, alone and hopeless. I owe many thanks to our facilitator as well as many other staff and volunteers. I now see college and hope for a bright future for my daughter. I’m grateful to be a part of Lifeway and happy to report she’s been clean and sober since she started the program eight months ago.

I am very passionate in supporting Lifeway and Three Oaks Academy for providing the vessel for my family to recover. Thank you Lifeway for giving me my daughter back!

Lifeway improved my relationship with my family and has made me become more comfortable being who I am. It also gave me the opportunity to build a life worth living.
My life is different because I am happy and able to cope with my problems. I hope to be able to handle myself and get a good job in the future.
